# EU AI Act

The EU AI Act is now law. The staff-training duty under Article 4 is enforceable from 2 August 2026. ReadyForAI helps Irish and EU organisations understand their obligations and meet them.

## What the Act requires

Article 4 requires organisations to ensure their staff have sufficient AI literacy for the AI they use. This means:

- Understanding what AI tools your staff are using
- Training staff on safe and responsible AI use, tailored by role
- Keeping records of who was trained, on what, and when
- Refreshing training as tools change — not one-and-done

## Risk classification

The Act classifies AI into four tiers: minimal risk, limited risk, high risk, and unacceptable risk (banned). Most organisations need to:

1. Identify which AI systems they use or deploy
2. Classify each system into the correct risk tier
3. Apply the obligations that come with that tier

High-risk AI systems face the heaviest requirements: technical documentation, human oversight, conformity assessment, and registration.
